Esau

Who was Esau in the Bible?

Common sense is not all that’s common. In fact, the common thread in many decisions is that they don’t make sense. Esau’s life was filled with choices that he must have regretted bitterly. He would appear to have been a person that found it hard to consider consequences, reaching to the need for the moment without realizing what he was giving up to meet that need. Trading his birthright for a bowl of stew was the clearest example of his weakness. He also chose wives in opposition to his parents wishes. Esau had to learn everything the hard way.

Esau’s initial response to many of his actions was probably anger. In itself that isn’t wrong as long as the energy of that anger is directed toward a solution and not towards yourself or others as the cause of the problem. Stop for a moment before making a decision and think of the long term effects. Try and shift the focus from, what I need now, to what will happen later if I do this. We all face choices every day. Some are very simple and some get very tough to make. I find that it is much better to get God involved in the tougher decisions since He knows what is best for you. How do you get God involved? You pray over the decisions you are going to make and ask for guidance. When you do this, your conformation will come. If it doesn’t, then you probably should do what your asking.

Do you allow God to guide you through your life? Do you know God? Do you know Jesus?

Are you certain that you are going to heaven? If the answer is no or your not really sure and there is something stirring inside you at this very moment to do this, then all you have to do is say a small prayer and you can be assured of your name being added to the Book of Life. Go to the prayer of salvation and pray the words out loud and believe in your heart and you will be saved.

Esau’s story is told in Genesis 25 – 36. He is also mentioned in Malachi 1:2, 3; Romans 9:13 and Hebrews 12:16, 17
