Who was Joshua in the Bible?
One of the greatest challenges for a leader is to replace themselves. Many great accomplishments have been started by someone with great ability whose life or career ended before the vision became reality. The fulfillment of that dream became the responsibility of the successor.
Moses made an excellent decision when he chose Joshua as his assistant. That choice was later confirmed by God when He instructed Moses to commission Joshua as his successor (Numbers 27:15 – 23). Joshua had played a key role in the Exodus from Egypt. Introduced as a field general of Israel’s army, Joshua was the only person allowed to accompany Moses partway up the mountain when Moses received the law (Ten Commandments). Joshua and Caleb were the only two among the twelve spies that brought back an encouraging report after being sent into the promised land for the first time. Other references show Joshua to have been Moses’ constant shadow. His basic training involved living with Moses and experiencing firsthand what it meant to lead God’s people. This was modeling at its best!
How important are the people in your live that you model yourself after? Do you model yourself after people that know God? You model yourself after others, and others model themselves after you. Do those that are watching you see God reflected in every area of your life?
Have you asked God to lead you to a trustworthy Moses? Have you asked God to make you a good Joshua? Do you know God? Do you know Jesus?
Are you certain that you are going to heaven? If the answer is no or your not really sure and there is something stirring inside you at this very moment to do this, then all you have to do is say a small prayer and you can be assured of your name being added to the Book of Life. Go to the prayer of salvation and pray the words out loud and believe in your heart and you will be saved.
Joshua’s story is told in the book of Joshua. He is also mentioned in Exodus 17:9 – 14; 24:13; 32:17; 33:11; Numbers 11:28; 13; 14; 26:65; 27:18 – 23; 32:11 – 12, 28; 34:17; Deuteronomy 1:38; 3:21, 28; 31:3, 7, 14, 23; 34:9; Judges 2:6 – 9 and 1 Kings 16:34
