Who was Rahab in the Bible?
Rahab was a prostitute in the city of Jericho. As a prostitute, she lived at the edge of society, one stop short of rejection. Her house, built right into the city wall, provided both lodging and favors to travelers. It was a natural place for the Israelite spies to stay since they would be mistaken for her customers.
Stories that the Israelite’s were going to invade had been circulating for some time. But now it seemed evident that it was going to happen. Living on the wall, Rahab felt especially vulnerable. Even though she feared along with Jericho’s population, she alone turned to the Lord for her salvation. Her faith gave her the courage to hide the spies. Rahab knew that she could have been killed if she were caught harboring the Israelites, however she took the risk because she sensed that the Israelites relied on a God worth trusting. And God rewarded her by promising safety for her and her family.
God works through people, even people like Raheb, whom we are inclined to reject. God remembered her because of her faith, not her profession. If at times you feel like a failure, remember that Raheb rose above her situation through her trust in God. You can do the same.
Do you trust in God? Do you know God? Do you know Jesus?
Are you certain that you are going to heaven? If the answer is no or your not really sure and there is something stirring inside you at this very moment to do this, then all you have to do is say a small prayer and you can be assured of your name being added to the Book of Life. Go to the prayer of salvation and pray the words out loud and believe in your heart and you will be saved.
