Sarah

Who was Sarah in the Bible?

One of the hardest thing to do in our lives is to wait. It makes no difference whether we are expecting something good, bad or something unknown, waiting seems to take its toll on us by slowly wearing us down to the point where we feel like we need to take some action.

One way we try to cope with a long wait (or even a short one) is to begin helping God get His plan into action. Sarah who was Abraham’s wife, tried this approach. Since she was too old to expect to have a child of her own, she thought God must have had something different in mind. From Sarah’s limited point of view this could only be to give Abraham a son through another woman, which was a common practice in her day. As harmless as her plan seemed, Abraham sleeping with her maidservant Hagar in which a child named Ishmael would be born, seemed to be the solution she was looking for. The events that followed must have had Sarah regretting the day she decided to push God’s timetable ahead. Not only Sarah would be affected by this decision, but the lives of the Hagar the maidservant, Ishmael the son born of Hagar, Abraham and others would also be affected.

Another way to cope with a long wait is to conclude that what we’re waiting for will never happen. Sarah waited 90 years for a baby! When God told her that she would finally have one of her own, she laughed, not so much from a lack of faith in what God could do, but from doubt about what He could do through her. When she was confronted about her laughter, she lied since she probably didn’t want her true feelings to be known.

We all have tendencies to try and speed up something to fit into our timing. But we must remember that God is in control, and His timing for us is perfect.

My personal Testimony:

I had been in California for 38 years and during the past 15 years I had been thinking of moving back to Connecticut. On two different occasions I tried to make the move and would always be stopped with a roadblock of one kind or another which prevented me from moving. Then I decide to do it God’s way and asked Him if I should go. I needed a car to make the trip since my car would have never gotten across the country or across town for that matter. I asked God to help me find a car if I am supposed to go. I started looking in the paper and online for a vehicle. I called a dealership and spoke to a salesperson telling them exactly what I was looking for in a vehicle. She instantly replied that they had just taken in a car on trade that was what I wanted, but she didn’t know if the dealership was going to wholesale it out since it was over 5 years old, or sell it. I asked her to check with the sales manager and let me know. A few days later she called me and said they were going to sell the car. I had looked up the value of the car on Kelly Blue Book and with the excellent condition and low mileage the car was worth between $ 10,000.00 to $ 12,000.00 dollars. Now the trade in value was $ 6,800.00 which is about what I could afford. If you know how a car dealership work, you know that they do not sell their vehicles for trade in value. I asked her what they would sell the car for and she went to the manager, called me back and said $ 6,800.00! I never offered a price, I never had to haggle or struggle with the dealership at all. I went down and purchased the car and now drive a 1999 Lincoln Town car in perfect condition that only had 44K miles on it. But it gets even better. My sister has a house that basically has two houses attached of which one was empty. I had told her I was coming back and was wondering if she would rent me the empty house. But because I had gone back and forth with coming and not coming when I finally made the final decision, she told me she had taken a deposit from someone else just a week ago for the house. So I started looking for other houses or apartments to rent which were out of my price range. I was devastated, since I had given my landlord my notice and now had to either find a place here in California to move to or something else in Connecticut. Then the man that had given my sister the deposit, told her he was just handed orders from the military, and had to move out of the state so he could not take the house. So guess where I am!

Glory be to God!

Do you allow God to guide you through your life? Do you know God? Do you know Jesus?

Are you certain that you are going to heaven? If the answer is no or your not really sure and there is something stirring inside you at this very moment to do this, then all you have to do is say a small prayer and you can be assured of your name being added to the Book of Life. Go to the prayer of salvation and pray the words out loud and believe in your heart and you will be saved.

Sarah’s story is told in Genesis 11 – 25. She is also mentioned in Isaiah 51:12; Romans 4:19; 9:9; Hebrews 11:11 and 1 Peter 3:6
